2011 Resolutions

I've never been big on new year's resolutions. I think I've just felt like I'm already giving all the important stuff like family, church, and home everything I can already. Not that there's no room for improvement, but I'm doing the best that I can. (Now all you other hard-working moms who read this blog, go tell yourself that and stop being hard on yourself!) I have realized though, that I've let myself go by the wayside and I am going to start doing a few things so I can feel like my own person again instead of a tired mommy.

1. Spend more time and money on my hair and makeup. No more once a year haircuts. No more going to store without makeup and hoping I don't run into anyone I know. I will do my hair on days other than Sunday. I will not go out without makeup on.

2. Find a pair of skinny jeans that don't make me look obese. I know, I'm what, 3 or 4 or 5 years behind on this trend? It took me a while to feel like skinny jeans were cute and not odd-looking. Now it's taking me a while to find a pair that I can get into and look normal in. But I'm still searching and I will find a pair, darn it! Either that or trim down my hips and thighs, but I think the former is more likely to happen than the latter.

3. Make money on the stock market. A couple years ago, Greg and I each invested in a stock. Just for fun. Greg bought Washington Mutual. In case you don't remember, that company went under and it's investors lost everything. Yeah, that kind of stunk. I bought Vanda, a Maryland pharmaceutical company. Since then I've watched certain stocks here and there but I've lacked the guts to do any trading. One that I've been watching is another Maryland company, Under Armour. It kept going down and I thought to myself, "If it goes below $15 a share I'm going to buy it." Well, it did and I didn't. I chickened out. Do you want to know what the current value of Under Armour is? $56.30. I know, it kills me. I console myself by acknowledging the fact that if I had bought it, I wouldn't have invested that much money, and thus wouldn't have made that much money. But it still hurts.

Anyway, I've decided that I'm not going to be afraid to buy stock anymore and I'm going to trust my instincts. Last week I sold Vanda for nearly double what I bought it for. Now before you get too excited, don't forget that I needed to make up for Greg's loss, which I have almost done. I used that money to buy Chipotle and P.F. Chang's. Does anyone out there not love either of those places? I didn't think so. That's why I bought them.

Now let's see what other worldly goals I can come up with...
